The game is on indefinite hiatus for the time being. If you are encountering crashes while cooking, make sure you're inputting ingredients. As stated this game was made in about three days lol
Story:
As Reyna's hands grazed the waters of Konpeito bay, she replayed what she knew about herself before her memories come to an end. Who WAS she? Where was she? Why was she here? Now thanks to her new friends, Lawana and Mallow, Reyna can finally start life anew helping out at their Sugar Star Cafe. But is the world she's stumbled upon as wonderful as it seems?

About:
Sugar Stars is a cafe / dessert themed life sim I started for YuriJam. Unfortunately, due to personal issues, I put what I had together between three days so it's super untested, rough and buggy! I hope I can fix it up soon ;-;
Please keep in mind that you're bound to encounter a glitch or some dry points but I promise I'll fix those up right away!

Hello, my name is Leilani, and I'm a trans woman btw, just wanted to mention that real quick first. I just played a little bit of ur game and I quite enjoyed it.
I really love the artwork and music, and the gameplay is simple but still has a nice relaxing vibe to it that I really enjoy. The cute, pastel aesthetic is really nice and adds to this wonderful little game of sweets. And the characters so far are nice and have really pretty hair that I'm a little jealous.
I did however, experience a crash once while I was putting together 4 separate ingredients, which were Milk, sugar, butter and mint. I think I'm remembering that right but I can test it again to be sure.
I will say tho, that so far, this game has calmed me down a bit emotionally and mentally when it comes to my transition, and has also made me feel really happy when I just looked at the character designs.
Thank you for such a pretty little game that has comforted me a little. I wish u good luck with ur future works and anything else. Also, great work for a game made in only 3 days, that's really impressive. Great job.

Hello Rooftops, I enjoyed the game very much. But, If you made this game with an RPG/RTP Maker Engine can you make a no RTP version? If you don't know what that means, the no RTP version dosen't contain the engine in the .zip and you have to download the actual engine for it. For example; RPG VX ACE. I'm sorry if you think I'm calling you dumb..
Hi there! Glad you enjoyed my small silly project!
Sugar Stars doesn't include default RTP package and all of the files should be included within the game much like VX Ace, I'm pretty sure I double checked. You shouldn't need the engine to play it, I've tested it out on multiple devices. Regardless, RTP can be downloaded separate from the engine. :)
I appreciate your feedback and I respect your preference! :) Unfortunately though, If you're asking me to remake the game in RPG VX Ace then, I'm sorry to be direct, that won't happen. I would've had to learn an entire new coding language to change over and it would take well over a month to re-event and code and optimize everything for an engine I frankly don't really enjoy using. That includes re-scaling all of the tiles and characters, learning parallax mapping etc. Unfortunately IVXA or VX or MV just happen not to be my cup of tea nor what I enjoy using.

It's just my own preference and I just can't justify using an engine I don't love. I hope you understand.

CRASH WARNING + FIX
(READ IF YOU CANNOT GET PASSED THE TUTORIAL)
Several users have encountered a cooking crash and it will be fixed shortly. I can't do it right away but I have the fix ready to render when I can.
Make sure you aren't hitting 'cook' before entering in ingredients. The new version will have it more clear. The blank areas that highlight are where the ingredients go. The crash is because you're hitting 'cook' before adding anything. I didn't anticipate this so the new version will play the error sound instead of taking down the whole game ahaha
Played only the beggining of it until it crashed when I tried to make the cake.

Sorry for the late reply! There's a glitch in the game that remains unfixed since I don't have the game file anymore (The project is on an indefinite hiatus). If you're referring to the tutorial section, make sure you're clicking the highlighted boxes before clicking "bake"! It was fixed in later builds of the game but I never officially released it ;; I'm so sorry about that!
So I was really excited to play this game and opened it up for the first time. The controls were confusing at first but I eventually figured it out. After having it crash on me so many times I opened up the game again. However, none of the keys were working on the game-play. I have tried the esc. key and all the other keys that I had figured out with the game, but the graphics won't budge.
I'm so sorry to hear that my love! I made this game in three days and didn't end up editing it any further since I lost the data for it.

May I ask what you mean about the graphics not budging? Is it just freezing on you?
Yes. The game will freeze when I'm trying to preform a certain action. I haven't gotten too far in the game, but I was at the point were you are first learning to make a cake not long after your character wakes up.
Alrighty so that's never happened before? The cooking system has given some problems (I have build that should fix it but its on another hard drive and I'm searching for it). Were you putting in ingredients before clicking cook? In this build of the game, there's a missing error catch that means if you click "Cook" before adding ingredients it would crash the game. The menu lacked clarity so many people didn't realize that the highlighted boxes were for ingredients, so when I find the file I'll release it and it should fix the issue. I've edited it for clarity and added the catch but I still have to upload.
That COULD be why since that's a common problem in the game. That's my best guess but if not then I'll have to look into it further. It was my first time coding a system for anything and three days to do so wasn't enough so I sincerely apologize for the problems you encountered!

I'm so sorry to hear that! May I ask what's happening when you try to download it? I'm afraid I haven't heard many other people having trouble so I'm not quite sure if it's the game or itch.io or internet connection or something else that's causing that for you. ;-;
Can this be entitled as a visual novel?
Hi there!
Sugar Stars isn't a visual novel. It has a similar format for the cutscenes, but it is classified as a non-combat RPG, meaning you do actually walk around and complete tasks~ I do have some visual novels released, but sadly S*s is more a walk around game than anything else.

This game looks super cute and sweet and seems like something I would love, but I can't event get past tutorial, when I get a task to take 2x sugar and 1x egg and to make a cake all I can do in that room is choose bake from a memory and then cook and when I do that game crashes with message "Script 'Cooking Window #Memory' line 113: NameError occurred. undefined local variable or method 'cookstart' for #<Scene_Cooking:0x89ec7a8>" Tried a couple of different things but there doesen't seem to be a way around it, I hope you fix those errors, I would really like to play this game.
Additionally, I didn't quite get it from your description, but is this a demo version or a full game alpha/beta version?

Sorry I was a bit unclear ahh I lost most of the gamejam months due to something that happened so I legitimately put together a demo in the last three days hehe Which is why it's so buggy. AHH I FIGURED OUT WHY IT'S HAPPENING OH GOD. It's because I never ended up completely finishing the menu so it got really confusing omg I'm so sorry! I didn't even put in the dialogue that explains how to navigate I'm so sorry ahh
What you have to do is click the first blank slot on the cooking window and select an ingredient from your inventory. The reason you're getting the error is that you're pressing 'cook' without adding ingredients which is something I never even thought of! I'll be sure to add an exception if someone clicks that by accident and I'll clarify the menu a bit! Sorry about that ;;
OH MY this is ADORABLE~ I haven't managed to get very far since it's bugging out a bit but I can't wait till it's all done and polished 'cause what I did see was diabetically sweet. The VA's did a great job and I am so in love with Reyna [I think fluffballs have become my new go-to type...] I like Reyna's take on the whole amnesia being a time of reinvention instead of confusion 'cause it really adds to her optimistic side. Oh and I got a good chuckle out of the whole heirloom mix up. Food puns ftw.
One thing: For the next version can there be a little info about what keys do what. I had no idea how to navigate around the pages... @_@ just a few words at the bottom or a tutorial page at the start menu would help me sooosossosooo much. >.<

Don't be sorry, I am just glad you got to finish the jam. Life can be so unpredictable but kudos for getting something out. And don't worry it's not rush as long as you planned to put it in I'm more than happy to wait. The jam 's over, you can take your time now~ But I'll be waiting eagerly for this to be finished <3
